Hi! Welcome to my online blog of what's new in books and media for children. This website is designed for students, parents, and teachers as a resource for staying connected to the library. My goal is to promote family literacy and encourage lifelong reading.

Second Graders Create a Folktale

The second graders at our school learned about folktales for the past two months in library class.  Ms. Amy Steinbauer, a school librarian student, guided them through this unit.  They discussed common motifs found in folktales, their significance, and how to identify them.  After their lesson, they proceeded to create their own class folktale.  They determined the details of their story, and then added illustrations.

After they were finished, they uploaded their story to the iPhone app Storykit to share with their family and friends.  Click on the links below to read as well as listen to their stories:

Audioboo Conversation

Here is our second post. We're so excited to share our learning.

Audioboo

This is my first time using Audioboo to create a mini-podcast. If this works, I'm hoping to use as an early literacy tool with the K-1st grade classrooms.
